2014 has been the first year in which UK retailers, including Tesco and Asda, have imitated the US's Black Friday. This day is considered to be the first shopping day of the Christmas shopping season, and as witnessed in the States, it provides an excuse for retailers to push for more sales in a context of chaos and for consumers to act in a manner dangerous enough to risk the lives of themselves and others.
The American counterpart has been well established to the extent of highlighting the true dangers of this animalistic charade: http://www.usnews.com/photos/10-violent-black-friday-shopping-injuries-deaths
The cons of Black Friday definitely outweigh the potential fiscal benefits. Shouldn't we prioritise consumer safety?
