Fund training for staff to recognise spiritual experience in mental health care
Ensure spiritual experiences are recognised in mental health care. Fund training for staff to distinguish them from illness, protect disabled individuals from coercion, and prevent wrongful sectioning and overmedication through trauma-informed, inclusive support.
I believe Spiritual awakenings may often be misunderstood as mental illness, which could lead to misdiagnosis, forced sectioning, and overmedication. I experienced this first hand, as a partially deaf person denied proper support and dignity. I think the system must change to protect vulnerable people and recognise spiritual crisis as a valid, human experience—treated with compassion, not fear and I think spirituality needs to recognised like gender and religion in the NHS
