Declare a National State of Emergency for the NHS and Care Sector
1. Mobilise national resources
2. Implement urgent retention and recruitment measures
3. Launch a task force to address delays in ambulance services and A&E departments
4. Establish a Long COVID task force to expand clinics and research
5. Begin reporting of preventable deaths linked to delays
We urge the UK Government to declare a National State of Emergency for the NHS and social care sector. Evidence shows this crisis is costing lives. The British Medical Association estimates up to 50 preventable deaths occur daily due to delays. The Royal College of Nursing highlights the dangers of "corridor care," where patients receive undignified treatment. With a staffing shortfall of over 160,000 in social care and millions on NHS waiting lists, immediate action is critical.
