Stop councils from cancelling or delaying local elections for any reason
Guarantee local elections go ahead as scheduled, regardless of devolution or restructuring. The Government should protect citizens’ democratic right to vote and prevent councils from cancelling or delaying elections under any circumstances.
In our area, local elections were cancelled due to devolution. This undermines democracy and denies people their right to choose local representatives. Governance changes should not override fundamental democratic processes. Everyone deserves the right to vote, no matter the structure or situation. The Government must ensure all citizens are fairly represented and able to participate in local decision-making.
