Honour the 5-Year Settlement Promise for Current Skilled Worker Visa Holders
Maintain the 5-year ILR rule for current Skilled Worker and Dependant visa holders; apply any 10-year requirement only to future visas. Honour existing commitments and protect family stability.
Current Skilled Worker and Dependant visa holders relied on the legislated 5-year route to Indefinite Leave to Remain, shaping long-term decisions accordingly. Retrospective extension to 10 years would impose unexpected fees, prolong family separation and breach legitimate expectation, undermining confidence in UK law and competitiveness in global talent markets. Retain the 5-year rule for those already admitted.
