Make teachers exempt from changes introduced in the Home Office whitepaper

Petition Details

The UK suffers from a teacher shortage, especially in specialist fields like STEM. To help meet Labour's 6,500 new teacher pledge, we think the Government must acknowledge the social and economic contribution of migrant teachers and exempt them from changes like the increase in ILR residence period.

Additional Information

According to the National Foundation for Educational Research:
- The teacher vacancy rate is now double that of 2020 and 6 times higher than in 2010.
- Teacher shortages tend to have more impact in schools with a higher proportion of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- International recruitment can be a small, but important, part of new teacher supply.
