Petition Action

To reinstate dual line & electrify the Uckfield Line.

Petition Details

We the undersigned call on the UK Government and Dept for Transport to:
1. Reinstate dual line along existing single-track stretches of the Uckfield line.
2. Electrify the full route, returning it to third-rail network standards.
3. Replace ageing diesel rolling stock with modern electric trains.

Additional Information

Safety & Resilience
• The line is single-track in several long sections, creating bottlenecks and heightening risk.
Capacity & Service Frequency
o Single-track sections currently limit services to one train per hour.
o Government’s 2008 reinstatement study concluded that doubling the track would allow for up to 8 trains/hour in each direction.
o Electrification + double tracking would unlock greater frequency, flexible, reliable travel and alleviate chronic overcrowding and constraints.
