Fund, distribute and mandate storybooks on online safety for all school children
Fund, distribute and mandate cyber safety storybooks that aim to teach children about online safety, for all school children, free of charge. Recommend these books in DfE guidance for PSHE, computing, safeguarding, and RSE, with accessible versions for SEND and EAL learners.
1. In April 2024, Ofcom research showed 32% of children aged 8-17 reported seeing something "worrying or nasty" online in the previous 12 months
2. Other research shows teachers see some barriers to effective online safety teaching as keeping pace with technology, understanding platforms, and lacking appropriate training
3. We believe current resources are often outdated, inaccessible, or may be seen as fear driven and that children can benefit far more from character led, emotion based stories that they may relate to
4. We think our proposal supports the Online Safety Act 2023 objectives, helps enforce DfE and PSHE statutory guidance, and helps prepare children for the digital world
