Waive English test for UK-educated adults applying for naturalisation

Petition Details

We want the Government to waive the English proficiency test requirement for naturalisation applicants aged 18+ who have completed significant formal education in the UK, including primary, secondary, and ongoing further/higher education taught and assessed in English.

Additional Information

We believe it is unfair and illogical to require young adults who have studied for sometimes over a decade in UK schools (primary & secondary) and undergoing undergraduate university education at the time of application, to prove English proficiency via an additional test. We feel this can place an unnecessary financial and emotional burden on families, devalue UK education, and ignores clear evidence of fluency already demonstrated.
