Broaden Grooming Gang Commission and ensure remit debated by MPs
We call on Government and Parliament to broaden the new Grooming Gangs Commission so it can compel evidence from central departments, national police bodies and politicians, make findings on their actions, and refer evidence to relevant bodies. Ensure its remit is debated by MPs.
In the 16th June Govt response, the national inquiry section says “local” five times, never “central”. Evidence raises concerns about authorities' failure to act. I think survivors need an inquiry able to scrutinise central decisions, compel witnesses and gather evidence. I think a Commons debate on the remit will show independence and rebuild trust.
