Reform of petitions to include creating Citizens’ Assemblies at 500k signatures

Petition Details

Add a new mechanism to petitions so at 500k signatures and 5% of voters in at least five UK regions, it triggers creation of a Citizens’ Assembly empowered to deliberate, recommend policy, or call a binding referendum. Legal compliance check of the petition request before an Assembly is set up.

Additional Information

I believe this reform would increase accountability, encourage civic participation, and ensure petitions cannot be dismissed without due consideration. I think it would also be safeguarded against misuse through regional thresholds, legal review, and Citizens' Assemblies.

I think the current system lacks democratic weight and that petitions, even with mass support, are often ignored.

I urge the government to strengthen public trust in democracy by making the petition process more participatory, representative, and effective.
