Legally require all taxi & PHV drivers to have disability training & reporting

Petition Details

Require all current & new taxi/PHV drivers to be trained on managing disabilities eg. safely drop off wheelchair user, sensory disturbances etc. Train & certification every 3 years to keep job & licenses with procedure for public to report incorrect practice & driver face consequences.

Additional Information

We think companies may send unsuitable vehicles and sometimes it is not possible to request specific ones. Some people need a standard car but may not be sent an appropriate vehicle. Some drivers may stop their vehicle without effective room for a wheelchair user to maneuver and sometimes believe it is safe to have 2 wheelchair wheels on a curb and 2 with no contact to ground. To make the course effective, we think disability advocates should help shape content.
