Discretionary life prison sentence
Inconsistency in Sentencing: Discretionary life sentences can lead to significant disparities in sentencing for similar crimes, depending solely on the judge’s interpretation and personal discretion. This inconsistency has raised huge concerns already in the uk with the IPP sentence.
1. Establish clear guidelines for discretionary life sentences to ensure consistency and fairness in sentencing.
2. Implement comprehensive risk assessment protocols for all individuals facing discretionary life sentences.
3. Increase transparency in the sentencing process, allowing for public understanding and accountability.
4. Provide adequate resources for rehabilitation programs for individuals serving life sentences, focusing on reducing recidivism.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you mean by increasing transparency and risk assessment protocols.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
There are also already guidelines from the Sentencing Council on discretionary life sentences: www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/sentencing-and-the-council/types-of-sentence/life-sentences/
