Petition Action

Change the law to put a stop to dangerous misinformation from all media.

Petition Details

Stronger legislation to crackdown on dangerous misinformation in news reporting, including online social networks. Weaponised news used to create a false narrative aimed at swaying public opinion needs to be illegal and have severe consequences for both the individual creator and the platform.

Additional Information

False news throughout media platforms which have the sole intention of swaying public opinion should be met with stronger legislation. When news is intended to create a dangerous bias, attacks on individuals or societel groups may increase, leading to extremism and increased hate crime. Weaponising news to push the ideas of individuals or organisations created to affect a population, which could lead to extreme views or outcomes, should be illegal.
