UK Gov and Cabinet Office to support the designation of Northampton as a city.
Encourage and support West Northamptonshire Council in submitting a bid for city status for Northampton at the next national opportunity, and to recognise the town's size and industrial hub, history and identity, and economic role when considering future civic honours.
Northampton is notingly one of the UK's largest standing towns, with a suitable city size population of 240,000 residents surpassing major urban cities like Lincoln, Norwich, Cambridge and Peterborough. With a rich history, a strong economy, and a roman Catholic Cathedral, It has royal roots, a renowned industrial past, and is a growing regional hub. Granting city status for the town would boost civic pride, attract investment, a newer regional city, and recognise its true national importance.
