Petition Action

Introduce performance-based pay reform for Members of Parliament

Petition Details

To commission an independent review into linking a proportion of MPs’ salaries to measurable performance indicators. This reform would enhance public confidence, reward effective representation, and ensure that MPs’ remuneration reflects their contribution to parliamentary and constituency duties.

Additional Information

It’s time MPs earned public trust. Link part of their salary to real performance: attendance, engagement, delivery. We call for an independent review into fair, transparent pay metrics that reflect genuine service and accountability. If performance matters everywhere else—why not in Parliament? Reform would reward effort, deter complacency, and reconnect politics with the values and standards voters rightly expect and deserve.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
