Petition Action

Do not go ahead with finger printing & biometric scanning at airports & boarders

Petition Details

Unless entering a country illegally there is no warrant for finger printing and biometric scanning of the population.
Fingerprinting & scanning at airports & borders raise significant privacy concerns regarding data storage, potential misuse & the risk of compromised biometric information.

Additional Information

While these technologies are presented as security measures, they can be seen as intrusive and potentially infringe upon civil liberties.
These systems can also produce false positive matches leading to delays or complications for travellers.
The data is vulnerable to hacking or misuse if not properly secured. There are concerns about how this data is stored, who has access to it & for how long it's retained.
It raises concerns about mass surveillance & the potential for government overreach.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

UK citizens leaving or entering the UK do not need to provide fingerprints or other new biometric information at the UK border.

Other countries may require biometric scanning upon entering or leaving. Decisions about entry or leaving requirements for other countries are a matter for those countries, not the UK Government or Parliament.
