Petition Action

Make Property Sellers Disclose Full House Info Before Listing

Petition Details

Buying a home shouldn’t be a gamble.

Right now, buyers must pay hundreds for surveys—only to discover hidden problems after making offers.
We want sellers to provide a full, professional property report before listing, so buyers know exactly what they’re getting.

Additional Information

We’re Asking For
A Property Information Dossier (PID) for every home listed.

Paid for by seller
Includes survey results, structure, energy rating, risks, planning, tenure, defects

Available when listed

Scotland has a Single Survey system.

It’s public, reusable, and makes buying far more transparent.

Saves buyers money and stress
Cuts failed sales/wasted surveys
Promotes honesty/transparency
Makes the market fairer/efficient

You wouldn’t buy a car without knowing the details

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

You may wish to sign this petition which calls for a very similar action: "Require sellers to complete surveys & probate before marketing their property".
