Petition Action

Make the London Mayoral election a national vote

Petition Details

Action requested
Amend the Greater London Authority Act 1999 so that the Mayor of London is elected through a national vote, allowing all UK citizens to have a say in choosing the leadership of their capital city.

Additional Information

London is the United Kingdom’s capital and global face. The Mayor of London’s policies on crime, infrastructure, transport, and the environment have profound consequences not just for Londoners, but for the entire nation. Decisions made in London influence tourism (which contributes around 10% to national GDP), international business confidence, and the UK’s global reputation.
The Mayor’s leadership has far-reaching implications for people, businesses, and communities across the country.
