Fund free swimming lessons for all children 3-16
Drowning is a leading preventable cause of child death. RLSS UK suggest that in England, child drownings have doubled since 2019–20. I believe free swimming lessons for ages 3–16 could save lives, cut inequalities, meet curriculum aims, provide life skills, reduce long-term health and social costs.
Swim England suggest that around 1 in 3 children leave primary school unable to swim 25m, despite it being in the national curriculum. Children from poorer families are far less likely to access lessons. Early, free lessons for ages 3–16 could build life-saving skills, boost health and confidence, and reduce inequalities. Swimming is not just sport—it is a vital survival skill that can prevent tragedies and help lower long-term emergency and healthcare costs.
