opposition of the Deregulation Bill 2013-14 to 2014-15 (HL Bill 58)
It has recently been brought to the attention of the I.A.A. that a bill is being rushed through in February that would prevent private providers being able to use blue lights/siren exemptions in any circumstances on the public highway, unless directly providing services to the NHS.
If enacted, this will put patients at immediate risk. This is work that the NHS ambulance trusts cannot and do not do, but is required in order to keep participants safe. By excluding both private and voluntary providers, the government is effectively introducing this legislation to stop a lawful activity going on which saves lives every week.
