Stop any plans to introduce a UK “BRIT ID” card scheme
We call on the Government to abandon proposals for a UK “BRIT ID” card scheme. The UK has previously rejected ID cards, and there is no clear evidence of public demand or benefit.
ID cards risk creating mass surveillance and tracking of citizens, undermine personal freedoms, and add costs to taxpayers. Effective alternatives already exist for security and identification.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
You may wish to sign this petition, which calls for the same action: "Do not introduce Digital ID cards" petition.parliament.uk/petitions/730194
