Allow the public to trigger a vote of no confidence in the Government
Introduce legislation that allows UK citizens to trigger a formal vote of no confidence in the Government through a petition process, giving the public a direct democratic tool to hold the Government accountable.
Currently only MPs can initiate a vote of no confidence. This leaves the public with no direct mechanism to act if they believe the Government has lost legitimacy between elections. A citizen-triggered process would strengthen democracy, rebuild trust, and ensure accountability. Rejecting this reform would show a lack of faith in the people’s right to hold power to account.
