To stop or reduce cat predation in the UK
To make cat owners keep their cat indoors all of the time or keep them indoors during the Spring and Summer months, which is very important time of the year for breeding and rearing their young. Other ideas would be to make it compulsory for cats to wear belled harnesses, collars or birdsbesafe.
Cat owners, now and in the future, have a huge responsibility to reduce / stop /impede their cats hunting habits, especially as the UK, as animal populations are declining so quickly.
As of 2024, there were an estimated 12.5 million cats in the UK and predate an estimated 270 million animals and birds annually. As the population grows, so will the amount of cats being owned, resulting in more kills per year, wildlife numbers cannot cope with this predation. Official help is required urgently.
