Private companies should not be making profits from care homes
Currently some owners of privately run care homes are creating their considerable wealth on the backs of ordinary working people, who are having to pay huge weekly sums for, in some instances, a minimal level of care.
Residential care should not be a money-making business, but be a sub-division of the NHS, with funding from various sources.
The government should :-
1. Make all those seeking treatment who are not British citizens, or have not been contributors to the exchequer for say 2 years, pay in advance for any treatment they receive.
2. Make an additional 1% surcharge on NI contributions
3. Make all those in care pay an amount equal to the basic state pension from their own resources.
4. Re-instate prescription charges to all residents of the UK under retirement age, apart from those with life-threatening or terminal illness, and parking charges, refundable to those undergoing treatment.
