Base the High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) threshold on household income

Petition Details

The aim of this petition is to request the government to change the threshold for the High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) from the current individual £60K income to a household income of £120K.

Additional Information

Child Benefit is claimed and used by families/households, however, the HICBC is assessed on an individual income of £60K or more within any given household. That means a two-parent household could earn up to £120K (up to £60K each) before being eligible for the charge, however, a two-parent or single parent household that relies on the income of one parent earning anything over £60K is obligated to pay the HICBC. We think this is unfair and negates the value of claiming child benefit.
