Do not decrypt and scan private messages
There have been recent efforts to slowly and unnecessarily remove encryption from private messages online which is a huge invasion of privacy and disguised mass-surveilance.
We call for change to cease all efforts by the government to erode or remove message encryption!
The vast majority of people have—at one point—shared personal/private details or experiences and scanning messages unnecessarily would be a massive invasion of our rights.
Not to mention putting all our private messages and information into databases would be a huge security risk as it allows hackers to see everything we sent with one data breach, essentially (for most of us) giving them blackmail material & access to private info we mentioned or sent in our messages.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand you're concerned about encryption laws, but we're not exactly sure what you'd like the Government and Parliament to do.
We could accept a petition calling the Government to change the law so that encrypted messages cannot be accessed by authorities such as the security services or police, if that's something that you'd like to see.
For example, we previously published this petition which has now closed:
