Petition Action

Government to hold a referendum on Digital ID

Petition Details

We want this government to hold a referendum on digital ID as this was not as they claim in their manifesto.
Clearly outline what ID will/could be used for and what will be put in place to stop this or future government abusing this system.

Additional Information

This government has no mandate with only around 34% of a 60% turn out. That only 14.2% of the eligible population putting them into power by default.
With the potential affects to Genral publics privacy and with the potential for abuse the public should be consulted before something as far reaching is put into place.
If you are sure you will win you should have no issue giving us the say.
I’m sure someone said this will be a government of service… not a dictatorship.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

You may wish to sign this petition, which calls for the same action: "Hold a referendum on introducing mandatory identity cards in the UK" petition.parliament.uk/petitions/734246
