Petition Action

Stop 10 Yrs ILR and Keep 5-Yrs for Legal Migrants, Refugees & HP already in UK

Petition Details

We urge the UK Government to honour the existing 5-year ILR commitment for those already legally in the UK and ensure that any new 10-year settlement rules apply only to future applicants.

Additional Information

These individuals have followed every rule, paid taxes, contributed to the economy, and built stable lives and families in the UK.
Applying a new 10-year ILR route retrospectively to people already on the 5-year path would be deeply unfair. It would break the trust between the Government and those who came here legally, increase financial and emotional hardship, and delay their ability to fully participate in society.
