Give homeless people living in nature legal status, address, work and healthcare
I want the Government to recognise people who choose to live in nature as citizens with full rights. They should have access to a legal address for documents, healthcare, benefits, and employment, without being forced into shelters or housing
Many people choose to live in nature for personal, spiritual, or economic reasons, yet they lose access to basic rights like healthcare, work, and benefits. They are treated as invisible citizens. Recognising their way of life would protect their dignity, allow them to contribute to society, and reduce exclusion. Everyone deserves equal rights and legal recognition, no matter where or how they choose to live.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about the rights of people without addresses, however we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, we're not sure what specific changes you would like to see made or what you mean by recognising people as citizens.
A fixed address is not required to claim benefits such as Universal Credit. You can find out more here:
www.gov.uk/government/publications/universal-credit-and-homeless-people/applying-for-universal-credit-information-for-homeless-people
Homeless patients are already entitled to register with a GP using a temporary address or the practice address. You can find out more here:
www.bma.org.uk/advice-and-support/gp-practices/managing-your-practice-list/patient-registration
The Financial Inclusion Strategy includes measures for homeless people to access ID and banking through pilot schemes. You can find out more here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/financial-inclusion-strategy/financial-inclusion-strategy
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a petition calling for the Government to fund post boxes for homeless people, if that's something that you'd like to see.
