Petition Action

Make it a legal requirement for salaries to be shown in job descriptions.

Petition Details

Introduce a universal salary banding system so that companies/employment agencies make it clear to job applicants what salary they can expect from a position rather than quoting "competitive salary" or asking applicants what their "salary expectation" is.

Additional Information

Such information should be transparent at the point of advertisement.
"Competitive salary" is often interpreted as "the very lowest we have to pay" which can potentially stop talented people suitable for positions in both public and private sectors from applying to occupations they would be capable of.
When asking for "salary expectations", it gives the opportunity for employers to take advantage of those who are perhaps unaware of their value or unable to communicate their market value.
