National Insurance unfairness for self-employed when reaching retirement age.
When a self-employed person reaches 65, the liability to both Class 2 and Class 4 contributions continues until the next 5th April.
This does not happen with people in employment as the liability stops when retirement age is reached.
Therefore, at worst, someone born on 6th April will pay an additional years contributions to those in employment.
Why cannot the self-employed enjoy the same treatment?
The Class 4 element, based upon profits, could easily be apportioned on a time basis up to retirement age.
