Require councils to review social housing tenancies
People are being left without support, while some social housing tenants remain in subsidised homes despite earning high incomes or no longer meeting the need criteria.
I am calling for a review of social housing allocation and tenancy renewal legislation, to ensure homes go to those who need them most today.
Thousands of working families, single parents, and vulnerable people are being left homeless while councils fail to review existing social tenancies. Social housing should be a safety net for those in need, not a lifetime benefit without reassessment.
We urge the Government to:
1. Introduce a statutory review system (e.g. every 5 years).
2. Ensure councils publish transparent allocation data.
3. Re-prioritise housing resources for households in verified homelessness or severe housing stress.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
