Mandate trauma-informed training in justice, healthcare, education & social care
Introduce legislation to require professional bodies to include accredited trauma-informed training as a mandatory requirement for professionals in justice, healthcare, education & social care. Embed into standards, inspections & safeguarding frameworks to ensure consistent understanding of trauma.
Ensure laws like coercive control & policies such as removing the presumption of contact are applied consistently & correctly, professionals must understand how trauma shapes memory, behaviour & communication. We think that too often, “trauma-informed” practice is misapplied, excusing perpetrators while failing to recognise trauma in those harmed. Embedding mandatory training, including within degrees, would give professionals foundations to identify subtle nuances of abuse, because knowledge saves lives!
