Petition Action

Make the government legally accountable for delivering its manifesto promises

Petition Details

1. Make manifestos legally binding once a party takes office;
2. Create an independent body or court process for public accountability;
3. Permit legal action when governments fail or neglect to deliver on their stated policies

Additional Information

Governments are elected on the promises in their manifestos, which form the basis of public trust and democratic choice. Yet there is no legal way to hold them accountable if they fail to deliver. Manifestos should be treated like binding contracts with the electorate, allowing citizens to challenge the government in court when commitments are broken without just cause. Democracy depends on accountability — promises made should be promises kept.
