Reverse the recent November price rise for ordering probate and will records

Petition Details

The Government and the Ministry of Justice must lower the cost of ordering a copy of probate records from between 1858-present to the former price of £1.50 from the newly raised price of £16.

Additional Information

Genealogists utilise probate records in order to uncover a greater understanding of an ancestor who may have left an estate, and can also assist them in discovering unknown family details. In raising the fee so dramatically, the MoJ are denying access to these vital documents to many who will no longer be able to afford copies of many of these records - this is not only limited to genealogy. I wish for the increase to be lowered to one that is more affordable.
