Legislate to protect BBC independence from political and corporate influence.
Pass an act reconstituting the BBC as a nationally owned corporation independent from government and whose leadership does not arise from government appointments; state funded and constitutionally barred from any form of private sector leadership, governance or influence of private companies.
The BBC has always stood as a bastion of free, fair and independent reporting and quality programming. However, since changes to its structure and governance appointments system in 2007; and more recently facing increasing political and corporate influence bearing down upon broadcasting values and decision-making, means The BBC risks succumbing to pressure from malign actors seeking to ensure favourable reporting and the promotion of untruths in their own interests. This must be prevented.
