Stop the proposed changes in “Restoring Order and Control” asylum policy paper
The Government should scrap plans that would: require refugees wait 20 years for permanent settlement, require refugees to return if their home country is deemed safe, and restrict the application of the ECHR article on family life.
The Government should also scrap any possible plans to take away possessions. We believe these plans include a dangerous reinterpretation of human rights law and treat people seeking asylum as scapegoats, which may normalise racism further. We are concerned individuals and communities may be left unsafe by these changes. It also could leave people seeking asylum, many of whom may have psychological trauma, in a stressful position.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
