Keep the 5-year ILR for those already on the route
Keep the Five-Year ILR Route — Do Not Apply New Settlement Rules to existing skilled worker visa holders who moved to UK based on existing 5 year rule.
Thousands of migrants in the UK entered routes that allow ILR after five years of lawful residence, and they relied on these published rules when making major life and financial decisions. Proposed changes to settlement requirements have created serious uncertainty. Applying new criteria retrospectively would undermine legal certainty, fairness, and legitimate expectation. Any changes should apply only to new entrants, and the existing five-year ILR route should be maintained for those already on it.
