Petition Action

Keep the current 5-year route to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) for refugees

Petition Details

Keep the clear 5-year route to ILR for everyone who receives protection in the UK. This must cover people currently waiting for an asylum decision and those already granted refugee status or humanitarian protection. Do not introduce longer waiting periods.

Additional Information

The 5-year route to ILR must be kept for all people granted protection, regardless of when they applied. Denying the clear 5-year pathway—especially to those already waiting—causes extreme hardship and uncertainty. Stability is key to integration. We need to ensure a consistent, fair, and humane system that allows refugees to fully contribute to the UK after five years, not ten. Fairness demands stability for all

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

Keep the 5-Year ILR route for refugees. Do not extend it to 10 or 20 years
