Stop the ILR Change: Migrants Feel Scammed

Petition Details

The government has recently announced major changes to ILR route which has been increased from 5 - 20 yrs effecting even those already here on skilled work visa. Many people's ILRs are due by the end of 2026 or early 2027 and it's totally unfair, unjust and this should be reversed.

Additional Information

We call the new rules the ‘5 Years ILR Route Scam’ because legal migrants came with the clear expectation of a 5-year path. The government is breaking that promise, damaging trust and pushing people into crisis. Many of us will leave, and others won’t come. We’ve contributed through work and taxes, and we do not accept these new rules for existing migrants.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

This seem to be asking for the same thing as this petition which is already open (and which you may wish to sign):

Keep the 5-year pathway for all legal immigrants to apply for ILR
