Petition Action

Do not apply new settlement rules retrospectively to recognised refugees

Petition Details

Introduce clear transitional protections so that refugees already granted status, or already on a pathway to settlement, are allowed to continue under the rules that applied when they first received protection.

Additional Information

The Government’s consultation on settlement reform proposes major changes that could affect people who have already been granted refugee status but have not yet reached ILR. This has caused uncertainty and anxiety. Transitional protections would ensure fairness, stability and clarity for vulnerable refugees.
