Stop deducting Carer's Allowance from Universal Credit
Change the Current rules meaning that anyone receiving Carer's Allowance has the full amount deducted from their Universal Credit award and allow carers to receive the full amount of both payments without an offset.
Research published by Carers UK together with the Centre for Care in 2024 estimates that unpaid carers in the UK provide care worth £184.3 billion a year. This figure highlights the enormous contribution carers make to society, yet many receive no meaningful financial recognition for their work. Thousands of carers, including those who have provided long-term care report that this rule is unfair, harmful, and forces families into hardship.
Ending the deduction would seriously improve their lives
