Petition Action

Fund and require trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming support in schools

Petition Details

Fund and require schools to provide trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming education in schools. This should include understanding threat responses, co-created sensory tools, protective behaviour policies, and ring-fenced money for early intervention and counselling, and training for staff.

Additional Information

We think neurodivergent young people are often punished or dismissed for responses in certain satiation, such as shutdowns, meltdowns or running away. Without support, we believe this can lead to school exclusion, self-harm and reliance on NHS services. We therefore call on the Government to fund trauma-informed education to keep pupils safer, improve school attendance and reduce long-term costs.
