Approve Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) for Serious UK Violent Crime

Petition Details

The Government should formally approve and establish a national protocol for Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) for UK police in solving serious violent crimes, including murder and rape. This will help ensure justice for victims and modernise UK cold case investigations.

Additional Information

The UK has over 1,000 unsolved murders. IGG is a proven, ethical technique that uses crime scene & abandoned DNA to identify perpetrators genetically. In the US, IGG has resolved over 600 cold cases since 2018. The lack of a clear UK framework contributes to unacceptable delays & judicial inconsistencies. We believe approving IGG as a standard tool is essential for public safety, delivering justice for victims, & prosecuting those responsible for the most heinous violent crimes.
