Compulsory Voting

Additional Information

In recent years, bar the Scottish referendum, turnout in elections has been very dismal. I would like to see a law passed that would mean those who do not vote be gifted a £1,000 fine and those who deface a ballot paper be granted the same amount. This may anger a few people, but in the long run it would give the government in power a mandate and thus increase democracy.
