Stop David Lammy curtailing the right to a trial by jury
Stop the Government’s plans to curtail the right to trial by jury and allowing Magistrates to jail people for up to 2 years
The right to trial by jury is a tried and tested method of determining guilt, used all over the world. It enables defendants’ guilt to be determined by their peers, not judges who are generally biased against who they perceive as criminals.
Also, lay Magistrates, who are not legally trained, should not have their power to impose a custodial sentence increased from a year to two.
