Keep the Ancient Right of Jury Trial Intact

Petition Details

The government and Parliament should not abolish the ancient right of Jury Trial -- the English and Welsh people should have a right to a fair trial, judged by a jury of their peers.

Additional Information

The Lord Chancellor has announced plans to abolish the right to a jury trial for criminal cases with potential prison sentences of up to three years.

For centuries the people of England and Wales have enjoyed the ancient right of Jury Trial. It is a necessary safeguard for individual rights to be judged by a jury of your peers, especially in cases of potential deprivation of liberty, including imprisonment.

The whim of one unpopular government should not be allowed to strip us of this right.
