Petition Details

Introduce a national licensing system for electricians, require retailers to verify competency before selling key electrical materials, and strengthen enforcement of electrical safety regulations such as Part P.

Additional Information

Electrical work in UK homes can currently be carried out by anyone, regardless of qualifications. Untrained individuals, handymen and kitchen fitters are able to buy electrical materials freely and perform electrical installations with no formal training, assessment or accountability.

Qualified electricians must complete years of training, hold the 18th Edition wiring regulations, maintain insurance, and undergo regular Competent Person Scheme assessments (NAPIT, NICEIC,
