Protect the Function of the Architect in UK Law

Petition Details

Protect the function of architects under UK law, not only the title. Review legislation and procurement to ensure that work affecting building safety, design quality, and regulatory compliance must be carried out or overseen by appropriately qualified and regulated architects.

Additional Information

Although the title “architect” is protected, core architectural functions can be undertaken without proper regulation or accountability. We believe this creates risks to public safety, building quality, sustainability, and clear professional responsibility. Architects are trained and regulated to coordinate design, safety, and compliance. Protecting their function supports better building outcomes and aligns with post-Grenfell safety reforms.
